In an article published yesterday Pattie Mallette, Justin Bieber’s mother recounts her story of choosing life instead of bowing to advice and pressure to abort her child. Thanks to her courage and strength, the world knows Justin, and many enjoy his music. Let us pray that the fulfillment of God’s plans for Justin also come to pass, even as the testimony of his birth blesses us.

Imagine life without everyone’s favorite tween sensation, Justin Bieber, causing pandemonium every time he steps on stage. Well, if his mom Pattie Mallette had listened to advice to abort her son when she was 17, there would be no such thing as ‘Bieber Fever.’
In an interview with Kathie Lee Gifford on the Today Show, Mallette revealed how she was sexually abused as a child and, by age 14, was already using drugs and alcohol. When her hardships became too much to bare, Mallette attempted suicide by throwing herself in front of an oncoming truck. Then, however, while staying in a psychiatric hospital during one of the darkest points of her life, she discovered God through a friend and became a Christian. This conversion, she said, gave her peace of mind.
But, after just six months, she relapsed back into bad behavior and, at age 17, discovered she was pregnant. Because of her young age and difficult situation, many people encouraged her to end her pregnancy.
Mallette, however, insisted abortion was never an option.
I just knew I couldn’t. I just knew I couldn’t. I just know I had to keep him. And, do the best. I — you know, I didn’t know how I was going to do it. But I just knew that I couldn’t — I couldn’t abort. I had to do my best. I had to see what I could do. And I was determined to do whatever it took.
The young mother knew she made the right decision upon seeing her baby boy for the first time. “I know this sounds crazy, but he sounded like he was singing. He did.”
Thanks to Mallette, today Justin can sing to millions of fans and inspire them as a living example of the sanctity of human life.
